COLOMBO: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak has arrived in Sri Lanka for a three-day official visit.
The special aircraft carrying Najib and his wife Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor landed at the Bandaranaike International Airport here Sunday at 8.40am (11.10am Malaysian time).
They were greeted on arrival by Tilak Marapana, Sri Lanka’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Development Assignments, as well as other Sri Lankan and Malaysian officials.
Also present were International Trade and Industry Minister Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamed and Deputy Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Reezal Merican.
This is Najib’s first official visit to Sri Lanka. It marks the 60th anniversary of diplomatic ties between Malaysia and Sri Lanka.
Najib will be given an official welcome at the Presidential Palace here on Monday (Dec 18) morning, followed by a four-eyed meeting with Sri Lanka’s President Maithripala Sirisena.
A key agenda of Najib’s visit here will be to develop the proposal to set up a free trade agreement with Sri Lanka.
